For those of you who don’t know, the Starter and Home Basic editions of Windows 7 have had some of the aero effects removed from them. The main reason for this is because the Starter and Home Basic editions of Windows 7 are designed to run on low powered devices like netbooks. So to ensure smooth seamless performance, Microsoft removed these more demanding features of Windows 7 from them.
This means that there’s no Aero Glass, Aero Peek, Aero Snap, Aero Shake or the Flip 3D feature. ( You can find out more about the aero effects here) I personally love all these little features and I think everyone should have them. Not only do they make Windows 7 more visual appealing, but they also make the OS a lot more productive.
Aero Peek
So for all of you who are running Windows Home Basic or the Starter edition, here’s how you can get all those Aero effects.
There is a small .EXE file which has been created which patches system files to enable all the personalization features of Windows Ultimate – meaning that you can get all of those Aero effects at last. You’ll find the download link for it here
That’s all there is to it really, once you run the .EXE file your computer will restart so make sure you close all your running programs and save your documents before running it. And if for some reason you want to uninstall it, just run the .EXE again
So now you’ll be able to personalize your desktop a lot more. So be sure to check out the range of wallpapers and themes we have on offer for Windows 7.
