There have been a few user complaints regarding the small update that has been rolling out to update the update process for the coming update called “NoDo”. Confused? Essentially, the update which started rolling out to some Windows Phone’s yesterday is causing the phone to brick on step 6 of the updating process.

At this point, it only appears to be happening to Samsung Windows phones and has been broadly linked with the older firmware versions J19 & JJ4, however, the exact reason for these issues is still a mystery. For those few owners who have experienced a bricked phone, fear not, Microsoft has announced another update set to update the pre-update for the update known as “NoDo” which should arrive in three days.

The official word from Microsoft’s support forums is:

We would recommend at this time, not to retry the update, as subsequent attempts will fail similarly. While we continue to investigate the issue, we would ask that you not attempt the update until your device alerts you of another update opportunity, in approximately 3 days’ time.

For those select that do experience non-bricking issues with the update process, Microsoft has issued steps to try and remedy the problem. They recommend disconnecting the phone, taking the battery out and back in and then rebooting the phone. Those who have a bricked phone may want to contact their carrier for assistance as wpcentral.com is reporting that At&t is being most helpful with those users who have experienced the problem.

I’ve not received the update myself and I have a Samsung Focus on At&t, so I have no problems to report. Do we have any users who have received the update and have had issues with the update process or have been left with a bricked device?
